Safety Notice
Read this before relying on anything from ReCoil.
⚠ Garage-door counterbalance springs store lethal energy. A torsion or counterbalance spring under tension can release with enough force to cause serious injury or death. This is not a DIY topic. Spring work, door counterbalance work, and operator installation should be performed only by trained, qualified professionals with the correct tools.
Concept-grade, not a certified design
Anything ReCoil publishes, demonstrates, or shares — concepts, models, first-order calculations, drawings, or tools — is for exploration and discussion only. It is not a stamped engineering design, a construction document, or an installation instruction, and it must not be treated as one.
What has to happen before anything is built
No ReCoil concept should be fabricated, installed, retrofitted, or hung over an opening until, at minimum:
- a to-scale design is completed and reviewed by a licensed mechanical/professional engineer (PE);
- load-bearing and stored-energy components are analyzed with a real safety factor and independent drop-safety;
- the assembly is bench-tested in a contained, guarded setup — never first on a live opening; and
- the design complies with all applicable codes and standards (e.g., DASMA, ANSI, UL 325) and any fire-rated assembly is handled only with its listing agency.
